Back at the art table

If you have been following my work for some time, you may have noticed that over the last several weeks I have mostly been poring over my older works and not really making anything new.

I finished “Muted Potential” in early March, but I just couldn’t bring myself to start a new project. I have been marinating a few ideas and deciding on the best technical approach. But as much as I like to plan, some things only become evident when I actually start working.

So now, after a brief hiatus, I am back at my art table.

One thing I have been thinking a lot about is what defines abstract art. Does it have to be completely detached from reality? How about when you take a couple perfectly recognizable objects and juxtapose them against each other in an unpredictable combination?

One such example is my earlier work “Abyss”, where I juxtaposed cells against a background of a hurricane.

In my new project, I am planning to combine coronal sections of a brain and a beaded flower to represent a “Wilting Mind”. Let’s see how abstract it will seem.

I would love to hear your thoughts! Let me know how YOU define abstract art by leaving a comment below. Or email me directly at yzorina@gmail.com. I would love to hear from you.
