Hello and welcome to my website, where I merge the science and art in my life.

My name is Yana and I am a neuroscientist by day and an artist by night. Creating and viewing art (I love going to museums) helps me deal with stress and focus on the positive. It is a meditative process, where I can turn off the rational side of my brain and focus on feeling the present moment. When we surround ourselves with art, we can use it as an anchor to stop and take a minute to appreciate the beauty of the world. Viewing art has been shown to have benefits similar to meditation: decreasing stress, improving critical thinking, and refreshing our minds and spirits.

Finding Your Self
Fragile Memory

The benefits of meditation can not only be obtained by sitting still and focusing on your breathing, but also by slowing down and engaging in the act of seeing. As a scientist, I often enter this state while looking at images of cells under a microscope. Their structures are so intricate and complex that attention to detail is inevitable; and it allows me to quiet my mind. This is the experience I try to communicate in my artwork – recognize the beauty of your brain and use it to briefly escape and re-calibrate, so you can be your best self.
