While I would be the first person in the room to talk about all of the necessary precautions we all need to take to stop the spread of COVID-19, with vaccinations approaching 50% of the US population, things are beginning to look up again.
People who have been vaccinated are now allowed to socialize and spend time together, maybe even allow friends into their homes. In the end of March, we went to visit our close friends in San Diego. We met and became friends back in graduate school, but soon afterward they began moving from state to state, following the progression of their careers. Eventually moving to the other coast.
So getting a chance to hang out in their backyard and catch up (all of us vaccinated) felt like a true luxury. It seemed like those years did not fly by and we picked up just where we had left off. But while there was certainly a lot of catching up to do, it hit me that eventually the conversation might run dry. When you are not in regular contact, it’s not as interesting to discuss the minutiae of everyday life.
So if you are entertaining the idea of having some guests over, do you need some new conversation (re)starters?
One such option? Having some interesting new art on your walls! Especially if it is a bit enigmatic. Wouldn’t it be cool to have a seemingly abstract piece of artwork and then be able to describe that it is actually based on science?
It will make you look and feel smart!
Check out my “Hope” series to have something positive to talk about!

“Deep Within” measures 10” x 10” on wrapped canvas, with painted edges (so no need to frame). As a part of my “Hope” series, it will help bring more optimism into your life after this difficult year.
